A Nigerian pastor has questioned Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh’s decision to establish a new prayer ministry in Abuja, asking what spiritual knowledge or conviction influenced her decision to venture into church leadership.
The cleric made the remarks while reacting to the actress’ recent embrace of Christianity and her growing involvement in religious activities.
Dikeh, who turned 40 last year, has in recent times publicly embraced a Christian lifestyle, moving away from aspects of her former public image and becoming more vocal about her faith.
However, the pastor questioned the decision to establish a ministry, particularly amid what he described as the proliferation of churches and prayer centres in Nigeria.
“What does Tonto Dikeh know in the spiritual world that convinced her to open a prayer ministry?” he asked.
The pastor also called for greater scrutiny of individuals seeking to establish churches, arguing that religious institutions should meet certain standards before being allowed to operate.
“If I become president, before you even open the church, you must pass through screening,” he said.
He further criticised what he described as questionable practices within some Christian gatherings, expressing concern about the conduct of some worshippers and the growing involvement of women in church leadership.
The cleric also linked the development to what he described as a decline in marital respect among some women, blaming the emergence of female-led ministries and the popular “Mummy GO” trend.
“Since today, when we started having Mummy GO and Daddy GO, many women today no longer respect their husbands,” he alleged.
He questioned whether some of the practices associated with modern churches were supported by scripture, repeatedly asking whether they reflected biblical teachings.
“Is that what the Bible says?” he questioned.
The pastor’s comments have since drawn attention online, particularly following Dikeh’s decision to launch her new ministry in Abuja as she continues to publicly embrace her Christian faith.
